Kathryn Popp Long

1962 - 1999

Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and teacher in the community where she spent the majority of her life - Bowie, MD. She lived life to the fullest and touched so many lives around her. In January 1999, at the young age of 36 she succumbed to cervical cancer, a battle she fought for 1-1/2 years. Even in the end, she still had the strength to reassure and comfort others. Her family and friends will always remember Kathy, not as the victim stricken with such a deadly disease, but as the active one who was always on the go and who had a deep appreciation for her family and friends.

The overwhelming success of past races, and the huge turnout of volunteers, runners and walkers, is a testament to the love the community has for Kathy.

Kathy received her care at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. At her family's request, the proceeds from this event benefit The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.

Testament To Kathy

"My Tribute to Kathy", by Carolin Pollack, Kathy's only sister.
"What Kathy Meant to Me", by Chris Pitts, a dear friend of Kathy's.
