From Martin D. Abeloff, M.D.
Thank you for your recent gift to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. Your support of cancer research is greatly appreciated. 2003 marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Department of Oncology at Hopkins. As you are aware, in the past thirty years, Johns Hopkins has helped pioneer basic cancer research, develop early detection and prevention strategies, and advance novel therapies. The commitment of our faculty, staff, patients and benefactors as partners in the quest for a cure has elevated us to world leaders in cancer research and patient care. It is great to have you as a member of this team! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Edward D. Miller, M.D.
Thank you for directing the proceeds from the 4th Annual Run For Kathy 5K to benefit cancer research at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Your thoughtful support, in memory of Kathryn D. Long, is greatly appreciated. Hopkins created the model for modern American medical education more than a century ago establishing a medical curriculum that combines basic science education and clinical instruction with community-based learning. We set the standard for academic medical centers, with our emphasis on the integration of research, teaching, and patient care. Run For Kathy’s support helps us create a future in which Johns Hopkins continues to expand medical knowledge, improve patient care, and train the next generation of physicians and scientists to carry forward the pioneering Hopkins tradition. Please accept my thanks and those of the students and faculty of the School of Medicine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From William R. Brody
Thank you for Run For Kathy’s support of cancer research at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. I am pleased to report that Johns Hopkins Medicine continues to be in the forefront of medical education, research, and patient care. Our alumni and friends are not alone in their high regard for Johns Hopkins Medicine. Time magazine recently singled out two Hopkins researchers in its list of "America’s Best", the incoming class of 120 medical students represents the most talented and promising of more than 10,000 applicants, and our Hospital was once ranked by U.S. News & World Report the best in the nation. Behind the headlines are many remarkable people - doctors, nurses, scientists, and staff - who are making revolutionary advances in medical discovery, providing compassionate care, and educating tomorrow’s top physicians. It takes considerable resources to support the extraordinary work they do and to maintain Hopkins’ standards of excellence. The continued support from Run For Kathy, in memory of Kathryn D. Long, is deeply appreciated. On behalf of those who will benefit from the progress you are making possible, I thank you.
