Race Details Run for Kathy 5K October 10, 2009 Allen Pond 3330 Northview Drive Bowie, MD 20715 The eleventh running of the Run for Kathy 5K
will be managed by the Prince Georges Running Club. The memory of Kathryn
Popp Long who died of cervical cancer in 1999 will continue to be honored
with all donations dedicated to cancer research at the Sidney Kimmel
Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins Medical Center. _____________________________________________________ The Registration Table will be open 7:00 to
8:30AM the morning of the race for race day registration and packet pick-up
for the 5K, One Mile Walk, and Children’s Fun Run. ·

Map (click me!) From the West – College Park, Greenbelt, Glenn
Dale: take Greenbelt Road – Glenn Dale Boulevard and turn left on Rt. 450
Annapolis Road. Continue East and turn right onto Rt. 197 Collington Road.
After crossing over the Rt. 50 overpass, take a right at the first light onto
Northview Drive. The Allen Pond Park entrance will be on the right after 1.25
miles. From Washington, DC & Virginia: take the
Capital Beltway on the MD side to Exit 19, which is U.S. 50 East towards
Annapolis. Go about 5 miles. Take the exit for Rt. 197 Collington Road South.
At the end of the off-ramp, bear right onto Rt. 197. At the first light, take
a right onto Northview Drive. Entrance to Allen Pond will be on the right
after 1.25 miles. Follow the signs to the race. From Annapolis: take U.S. 50 West towards
Washington, DC. Take the exit for Rt. 197 Collington Road South. At the end
of the off-ramp, take a left onto Rt. 197. At the second light, take a right
onto Northview Drive. Entrance to Allen Pond will be on the right after 1.25
miles. Follow the signs to the race. From Baltimore: take I-97 South towards
Annapolis. Take the exit for Rt. 3 South towards Bowie. Go past Rt. 424 in
Crofton and Rt. 450 in Bowie. Continue past U.S. 50 and the PG Stadium (home
of the Bowie Baysox) on your left. Go a few hundred yards more and take a
right at the light onto Rt. 197 Collington Road. Go approximately 1 mile, and
take a left at the light onto Northview Drive. Entrance to Allen Pond will be
on the right after 1.25 miles. Follow the signs to the race. From Bowie: Get onto Northview Drive by any of
the directions above. Find the traffic light intersection with Nottinghill
Drive and you are right at the Allen Pond Park entrance! Pre-registered 5K runners are assured a T-Shirt
at the time of packet pick-up. Same day registrants will receive shirts on an
as available basis. 5K finishers will receive a medal at the finish
line. There will be door prizes selected by a random
draw of Bib numbers at the start of the Awards Ceremony at 10:00AM There will be awards for the first three male
and female overall finishers. There will also be age group awards for the
first three male and female finishers in each category for ages 12 through 70
plus years. ·
There will be face painting and other activities
for children. ·
At 8:45AM there will be a Children’s Fun Run
around the pond. There is no fee for this, but registration and wearing a
runners’ bib is required. ·
There will be water and refreshments served in
the Pavilion after the race. ·
The Awards Ceremony will start at approximately
10:00AM. ·
The 5K Race will be timed with a shoe chip and
sensor mat system. The chips must be returned at the finish line chute. ·
Results will be posted on the Run4Kathy website
as soon as possible Course Record: The course records for both men
and women were broken in 2008. The new records are held by Matt Straughn of
Glenn Dale, MD for the men at 16:11:51, and Cate Fenster of Wooster, OH for
